Please read this carefully before making any decisions:
1. What is it you're selling?
I'm selling three things actually (4 including the special offer deal). The first is a brand new 64mb memory card that has been modified and installed with Mcboot 1.95. The 2nd thing is a refurbished Maxtor 160gb hard disk drive that I will partition and format to work on a PS2 and pre-install with games. The third is a HDD Adaptor to allow the HDD to work
2. So what does this memory card do that makes it so special?
Well it features some homebrew software called free Mcboot that allows you to play backup games either off a HDD, a USB stick or a disk.
It also comes with emulators on it to allow you to play old SNES and Mega Drive games on your PS2
3. I noticed you called this free Mcboot. Does that mean I could just download it myself and plonk it on a memory card and save paying you a bean?
The short answer to that is yes. The long and more boring is answer is probably not. Allow me to explain: to download the software is easy and free. To get that software from your PC onto a memory card is not. When I did the first one I watched all the YouTube videos going, I bought three different types of memory card to find one that worked, I bought various HDL type software to find I'd got the wrong version. In the end I had to stick with it and get it to work for my sanity. I then decided that once I knew how to do it I'd sell it myself to save people with more sense and less time the trouble. Please note I am not selling the software, as I've already mentioned, that's free. What your buying off me is a memory card, and my time and software to install it
4. Got that. So say if I bought one of these memory cards (MC's for short) off you do I need to do anything else to modify my console or just plug it in?
Just plug it in. Is called a softmod as you don't need to solder on aftermarket chips etc.
5. Is it easy to use?
To do the basics, yes. Bought in conjunction with the HDD I have for sale it's literally just plug and play. If you want to play games off a USB stick or disk it involves a little more work. Very basically you need to convert it to a format that Mcboot understands on your PC prior to it going near your PS2. In the downloads / links section you can get the tools to do this but it helps to have a decent knowledge of computers
6. Are there any others advantages to getting this MC then while your in the middle of your sales pitch?
Yes, since you ask. If your laser no longer works then fear not as this system has no need for it so you can use it regardless.
7. Do I need to check anything on my PS2 prior to ordering a MC?
Yes. Check that your MC slot works by digging out an old MC and saving a game to it in the usual way. It should work on all fat (original) PS2's but is a bit different if you have a slim (newer) version. If so have a look on the back near the model sticker there should be a small square sticker with the date code. if that is 8b or less then yes Mcboot will work on this console. if it is 8c then its a bit of pot luck as Sony modified the software of the console.
8. What if I try it and it doesn't work?
Send it back within 14 days of purchase undamaged and I'll give you a refund
9. What happens if it breaks?
As with the HDD they both come with a 1 month warranty. If it breaks in the 1 month just send it back and providing there's no evidence of it being physically damaged or tampered with I'll send you a replacement
10. So is this MC illegal to sell and own?
No, it's perfectly legal
11. OK, what about the HDD?
A little bit more complicated this one. If you own a legitimate copy of a game it is perfectly legal (and sensible) to have a backup. When I sell you a HDD I will email you a list of games that I would post it with usually. If you email me back to say you don't own a legitimate copy of any of these games I'll remove them from the HDD. If you ask for any games adding on I will take it that you already own the original hence you're only requesting a backup.
12. So you're saying if I buy a HDD off you and email you a list of games you'll put them on for me?
Yep, 160gb (ends up about 150gb when partitioned for PS2) holds about 45 games. Provided you tell me you have the the originals I'll put whatever games on you like. Please be aware though that not every game will be compatible. On a full HDD work on a possibility that one game may not be compatible and you won't be disappointed
13. If I buy a HDD what does it need to work?
You need one of the fat 'original' PS2's and a Sony Network Adaptor. These are readily available 2nd hand on eBay for about £12 2nd hand and £20+ new. Finally you'll also need one of the memory cards I have for sale
To fit it is then just plug and play.
14. Is there a risk I may damage my console using this system?
Absolutely not. You are making no modifications to the physical console or the boot software. If you remove the MC and / or the HDD it is back to standard
15. How do I know you're not a crook that's going to run off with my money?
Your money is covered by eBay and Paypal protection in the event of a problem and my eBay feedback speaks for itself
16. I'm sick of reading now is there anything else I need to know?
Yes, some PS2 games do not recognize a memory card bigger than 8mb so you may need an old one of those to install in your MC slot 2 to save games onto.
Also the HDD does not allow you to save PS1 / PSX games, just PS2
